The Short Answer

The Jake & Lucas Free AI Visibility Audit is a manual 30-45 minute analysis of your website, delivered as a 1-page PDF report plus a 30-minute walkthrough call within 2 business days of form submission. We run three tests on your current site: (1) Google PageSpeed Insights for Core Web Vitals mobile score, (2) Google Rich Results Test for LocalBusiness + Service + FAQPage JSON-LD schema completeness, and (3) direct ChatGPT and Perplexity queries asking "best [your trade] in [your town] NJ" to verify whether your business is currently being cited by AI engines. We compile the results with screenshots, identify the specific gaps your closest 3 competitors have exploited, and deliver a prioritized 5-7 item action list with effort estimates. The audit is genuinely standalone — you can take the report to your current agency, your in-house developer, or any other freelancer and act on it. No upsell pressure, no spam follow-up, no required commitment.

Seven Specific Deliverables

What You Actually Get

Itemized. The audit is a real product with specific deliverables — not a 30-minute "sales call disguised as audit."

Core Web Vitals Score + Screenshot

Your Google PageSpeed Insights mobile + desktop scores with annotated screenshots. We highlight the specific LCP, CLS, and INP issues hurting your ranking — not just the headline number.

JSON-LD Schema Audit

Google Rich Results Test screenshots showing exactly which schema types your site emits, which are broken, and which are missing (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, Organization). Plain-English explanations of what each missing piece costs you in AI visibility.

AI Overview Citation Testing

We directly query ChatGPT and Perplexity for your top 3 services in your town (e.g., "best HVAC contractor in Hackensack NJ"). Screenshots of the actual responses. Are you cited? Who is? Why? This is the single most important diagnostic — and almost no other audit runs it.

GBP Optimization Gaps

Your Google Business Profile analyzed across 12 dimensions: services field completeness, products field, weekly post frequency, Q&A section status, photo quantity + recency, review velocity vs competitors, category accuracy, hours/holiday hours coverage, attributes, NAP consistency, GBP-to-website schema linkage, and Maps Pack ranking for your top services.

Top 3 Competitor Analysis

We identify the 3 local businesses ranking above you for your top services and analyze what they're doing better — schema, content depth, GBP optimization, review velocity, town-cluster expansion. Specific quotes and screenshots from their pages so you can see exactly what to beat.

5-7 Item Action List with Effort Estimates

Prioritized by ROI. Each item categorized as DIY-able / freelance-able / requires-agency. Effort estimate in hours. Expected impact (e.g., "expected +20% AI Overview citation rate within 60 days"). Take the list to anyone — us, your current agency, your in-house team. The list is yours.

Plus: A 30-Minute Walkthrough Call

Jake walks you through the report personally over Zoom or phone (your choice). 30 minutes. You can ask anything — about your site, your competitors, your trade-specific concerns, whether a $5,500 build is worth it for you, whether to DIY the fixes, whether to fire your current agency. Genuine consultation, no pitch.

The 3 Diagnostic Tests We Run

The Three Tests Every Local Business Site Should Pass

We run these three free public tests on your site as the foundation of the audit. You can run them yourself in 10 minutes — but the audit explains what the scores actually mean and what to do about them.

01

Google PageSpeed Insights

pagespeed.web.dev·Pass: Score 80+ on mobile

If you fail: Site is being penalized in Google + Bing rankings. Most local business WordPress sites score 35-55. Astro/static sites score 95-100.

02

Google Rich Results Test

search.google.com/test/rich-results·Pass: LocalBusiness + Service + FAQPage schema all detected

If you fail: You're invisible to AI Overviews — schema is what AI engines extract to cite your business.

03

Direct ChatGPT / Perplexity Query

chat.openai.com + perplexity.ai·Pass: Your business named in the answer to "best [your trade] in [your town] NJ"

If you fail: You're not in the consideration set. As of 2026, ~1 in 5 commercial-intent local searches starts on an AI engine.

Who This Audit Is For (And Isn't)

Honest about fit. If you're not a match, we'll tell you upfront and refer you to someone better positioned.

A Match If You Are...

  • A local business in New Jersey or eastern Pennsylvania: contractors, med spas, law firms, dispensaries, resorts, staffing agencies, trade schools
  • Generating $500K–$10M annual revenue and ready to invest in better digital marketing
  • Currently dissatisfied with your website performance, lead flow, or AI search visibility
  • Decisively-owned business — the owner can decide whether to act on the audit without waiting for committee approval
  • Curious about whether AI search is actually a thing or whether you can ignore it for now
  • Anywhere else in the US — the methodology is the same; we work remote nationwide

Not a Match If You Are...

  • A new business without an existing website to audit (we can't audit what doesn't exist; we can quote a build directly)
  • A national / multi-state operator with 50+ locations — needs an enterprise-tier engagement, not our boutique fit
  • An e-commerce business with 500+ SKUs — different specialty (we refer to e-com agencies)
  • Looking for a generic SEO checklist you can use across 200 sites — this audit is purpose-built per business
  • A business in a market we don't know — if we can't deliver a useful audit, we'll say so upfront
  • Looking for paid search (Google Ads, Bing Ads) optimization — different specialty

Why we can put money behind this

If your new website doesn't pay for itself in 90 days, you get every dollar back — and you keep the website. Lucas explains why we can offer it, and why we turn down the businesses we don't think we can make money for.

Audit FAQ

The 8 Questions People Ask Before Requesting

Is the audit really free? What's the catch?
Genuinely free, no catch. The audit takes us 30–45 minutes per business and we deliver a 1-page PDF report plus a 30-minute walkthrough call. There's no obligation to hire us afterward. We don't sell your information, we don't put you on an aggressive sales cadence, we don't lock you into anything. The reason we offer it free: it's our best top-of-funnel marketing. About 30–40% of audit recipients eventually become paying clients within 12 months. The other 60–70% take the report and either DIY the fixes or hire a different agency — and that's fine. The audit itself is genuinely valuable to you either way.
How long does the audit actually take? When will I get my report?
From the moment you submit the form: we typically deliver the audit report within 2 business days. The walkthrough call is scheduled at your convenience (usually within 7 days of the report delivery). Total elapsed time from form submission to walkthrough call: usually 2 business days. Time investment on YOUR end: ~5 minutes for the form, ~30 minutes for the walkthrough call. The audit work is done entirely on our side using publicly available tools (Google PageSpeed, Rich Results Test, ChatGPT/Perplexity direct queries) plus our SERP research playbook.
What if my site fails everything — does that mean I have to spend $8,500 to fix it?
No. The audit identifies gaps; it doesn't prescribe one solution. If your site needs a full rebuild, we'll be honest and explain why. If your site needs targeted fixes (just schema, just GBP optimization, just a content refresh), we can quote those as standalone work or recommend a cheaper path. Many contractors get an audit and learn they can DIY 60–70% of the fixes — we tell them how. We're not commission-driven sales reps; we'd rather give you an accurate read than oversell you on work you don't need.
What if my site passes everything — do I still get a useful report?
Yes — the report still covers the AI Overview citation testing (which most "passing" sites still fail), opportunities for corridor-wide SEO expansion, GBP optimization gaps, review velocity benchmarking, and competitive positioning. About 5% of the contractor sites we audit pass all three diagnostic tests cleanly. In those cases we focus the report on growth opportunities — town-cluster expansion, content gaps your competitors are leaving, retainer-tier services that compound. The audit is valuable at every quality level of the starting site.
Can I use the audit to compare you against my current agency?
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Bring your current agency the report and ask them how they'd address each gap. If they have good answers and a path to fix it within reasonable cost, stay with them. If they get defensive, claim the gaps don't matter, or quote you 6 figures to address them, you have your answer. We don't have to be the agency that fixes the problems we identify — but most clients find we're the most cost-effective path because we built the audit around the gaps that matter for AI visibility, which is genuinely our specialty.
What's the difference between this audit and the generic "free SEO audit" emails I get spammed with?
Those are automated PDF generators that crawl your site, run a couple of Lighthouse checks, and email you a 40-page report full of generic recommendations ("increase your H2 density," "add more internal links," "improve your meta description length"). The output is the same for every site, regardless of trade or location. Our audit is manual, hand-done, specific to your business and town, and AI-search-specific. We test your actual AI Overview citation status by querying ChatGPT and Perplexity directly. We name the gaps your direct competitors have exploited. We tell you which of your trades is leaving the most leads on the table. It's the difference between a robocall and an actual phone call.
Do I have to hire Jake & Lucas for the audit to be valuable?
No. The audit is genuinely a standalone product. You get: (1) PageSpeed Insights screenshots + interpretation, (2) Rich Results Test schema audit, (3) ChatGPT + Perplexity citation testing for your top 3 services in your town, (4) GBP optimization gaps, (5) 3 specific contractor competitors you should be tracking + how they currently rank, (6) prioritized 5-7 item action list with effort estimates. Take it to any developer or agency and they can act on it. We give you everything in the report — not enough to act, plus a sales-pitch teaser.
I'm not in — can you still audit my site?
Usually yes. We do most of our work in NJ, but the audit methodology applies to any local business. We've audited sites in Passaic County, Essex County, Hudson County, Rockland County NY, and selectively in PA. The depth of our analysis is strongest in Bergen because that's where our corridor-wide research lives — but the PageSpeed + Schema + AI Overview tests are platform-agnostic, and we'll do those well for any local contractor. If we don't think we can deliver a useful audit for your market, we'll tell you upfront and refer you elsewhere.
